ICECRD ACTIVITIES – Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD) held a technical guidance safari (TG) in Central Java with the theme: “Accelerating the Dissemination of ICECRD Innovation and Technology”. TG was held twice, namely in Banyumas Regency with tobacco commodities as the main topic, and in Cilacap Regency which discussed coffee.
The first technical guidance was held in the Kamandaka Hall, Aston Imperium Hotel Purwokerto, on Monday, October 18, 2021. This activity is a follow-up to the collaboration between the ICECRD, IAARD Ministry of Agriculture and H. Sunarna, SE, M.Hum Member of Commission IV DPR RI.
The technical guidance was opened by Sunarna and attended by Drs. H. Sadewo Tri Lastiono (Vice Regent of Banyumas Regency), Dr. Tedy Dirhamsyah, SP, MAB (representing the Head of the ICECRD), Ir. Jaka Budi Santosa, MM (Head of the Banyumas Regency Agriculture Office), Sunoto, SE (representing the Head of Central Java AIAT and 145 farmers from Cilacap Regency as participants.
The Deputy Regent of Banyumas in his speech welcomed all invited guests and participants of the technical guidance. He also appreciated the assistance provided by the ICECRD, namely in the form of 20,000 certified Arabica coffee seeds and 1,000 certified superior coconut seeds. Sadewo also expressed his interest in developing cocoa in his area to change the mindset of farmers from planting cassava to cocoa. If necessary, farmers will be sent to the ICECRD to learn about cultivation, disease management, to cocoa packaging and marketing.
Tedy representing the Head of the ICECRD (Ir. Syafaruddin, Ph.D) who was unable to attend, thanked Sunarna for initiating the implementation of technical guidance in Banyumas Regency. He conveyed the message from the ICECRD to the participants of the technical guidance to always be optimistic during the Covid-19 pandemic and maintain health. In his presentation, he presented the profile of the ICECRD and its four centers.
The implementation of this technical guidance aims to disseminate the results of technological innovations that have been produced by the ICECRD in order to increase knowledge, especially about tobacco plants for farmers. The hope is that this technology can be adopted by the community, and the collaboration with the Banyumas Regency Government is getting closer.
Sunarna was also grateful that the technical guidance activities could be carried out well and thanked the ICECRD for facilitating and assisting the distribution of seeds and knowledge to farmers in the District. Banyumas. He advised that the knowledge that had been obtained from the technical guidance should not be kept for yourself, but also needed to be transmitted to other farmers who were unable to attend due to limited space and health protocols. Sunarna hopes that, after the implementation of this technical guidance, farmers should be able to put their knowledge into practice, so that crop productivity can increase and farmers become more prosperous.
After giving souvenirs from the ICECRD to the invitees, the technical guidance began with a presentation entitled: Plantation Commodity Policy in Kab. Banyumas by Ir. Jaka Budi Santosa, MM guided by Dr. Tedy Dirhamsyah, SP, MAB. The second material entitled “Introduction to Tobacco Varieties and Cultivation” was presented by an Associate Researcher from ISFCRI guided by Dwi Budi Hermawan, S.Sos. The event was followed by a discussion and question and answer session with the farmers. (anjas)
