ICECRD ACTIVITIES – Food development needs to be anticipated by using technology, innovation and agricultural business systems. The Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) as an agricultural research and development institution under the Ministry of Agriculture has a very important role in contributing to Indonesia’s agricultural development. Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Main Auditorium Ir. Sadikin Sumintawikarta – Cimanggu Research Campus, Bogor, IAARD held a Meeting and Gathering with all Structural Officials, Researchers, Engineers and Extension Officers as well as the Big Family of IAARD throughout Indonesia through virtual and physical meetings. The meeting which was attended by 200 participants was attended by the Minister of Agriculture while still implementing the Covid-19 Health Protocol.
In his speech the Minister of Agriculture (Dr. Syahrul Yasin Limpo, SH, MH) gave directions for IAARD to make technological breakthroughs, agricultural innovations, produce new superior varieties through superior research that is beneficial and improves the welfare of farmers’ welfare.
In the current New Normal transition period, Syahrul emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to make efforts to increase food availability, which relies on 4 (Four) Ways of Action (CB), including: (1) Increasing agricultural production by accelerating rice during the planting period (MT). ) II 2020 covering an area of 5.6 million hectares, swampland development in Central Kalimantan covering an area of 164,598 ha., (2) Food diversification based on local wisdom that is not focused on one commodity, through the massive use of local food such as cassava, corn, sago, bananas, potatoes and sorghum and the use of yard and marginal land through the sustainable food yard program (P2L) for 3,876 groups, (3) Strengthening reserves and food logistics systems, by strengthening the provincial government’s rice reserves to the smallest level in the village,and (4) the development of modern agriculture, starting from the development ofsmart farming to screen houses to increase the production of horticultural commodities outside the growing season, said Syahrul enthusiastically.
Syahrul advised the entire ASN IAARD family to all out support these 4 (four) ways of acting in every research, engineering and dissemination activity in order to increase food availability, so that what we have planned can be achieved well for the prosperity of the Indonesian people. He also expressed his pride in the researchers and the work of IAARD such as Eucalyptus anti-virus which has been felt by the community, concluded Syahrul.
To support food availability, the Head of IAARD (Dr.Ir. Fadjry Djufry, M.Sc.) introduced the Appropriate Technology “Fortified Rice Milk”, made from unused rice (broken rice/groats), added vegetable protein, processed vegetable extracts to be a food product of high quality/high value and rich in antioxidants, so it can be used as a substitute for cow’s milk for lactose-intolerant sufferers, in addition to cholesterol-free rice milk, has a good filling effect for weight loss programs. Fortified rice milk is an IAARD technology that has characteristics, small scale, energy saving, designed to increase nutrition and add value to the community, Fadry concluded. (Anjas)
