ICECRD ACTIVITIES – “Action Plan for Implementing the Utilization of Innovation and Provision of Superior Seeds” was one of the main materials presented at the workshop held at the Display Building, Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD), Wednesday (13/1/2021) . In this material the Indonesian Spice & Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMCRI), the Indonesian Sweetener & Fiber Crops Research Institute (ISFCRI), the Indonesian Palm Crops Research Institute (IPCRI), and the Indonesian Industrial & Bevarages Crops Research Institute (IIBCRI) conveyed the strategy of providing seeds to support commodity development superior plantations.
These strategies include: a) Development of seed source main gardens, b) Utilization of facilities and infrastructure in each Research Institute (IP2TP) and UPBS, c) Development of hatcheries (nursery houses, nurseries, d) Cooperation with local R&D agencies (BPTP), Dinas, and local seed breeder partners, and e) Synergy of each stakeholder, involving the role of the private sector, modernizing seed production through tissue culture techniques.
It is hoped that these five strategies will be able to overcome the obstacles faced by the Research Center in the scope of ICECRD. Even though they have different superior commodities, in general the four Research Institute under the scope of the ICECRD have constraints on the limited availability of source seeds and the development budget that changes frequently.
In addition, several leading commodities have different obstacles. For example, new red ginger can be developed conventionally and coconut SE development takes a long time, namely 17 months from the start of SE until it is ready to be acclimatized. (Anjas)
