ICECRD ACTIVITIES – Tuesday, June 8, 2021, the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD) officially signed a cooperation agreement (PKS) with the Central Lampung Regency Government. The signing was carried out by the Regent of Central Lampung, H. Musa Ahmad, S.Sos, and the Head of the ICECRD, Ir. Syafaruddin, Ph.D, represented by Dr. Tedy Dirhamsyah, SP, MAB as Coordinator of Cooperation and Utilization of Research Results.
The signing of this PKS is the beginning of cooperation between the two agencies, for the first step will be developing tropical date commodities in Central Lampung Regency. The ICECRD stated that it is ready to share technology and innovations from its research results to make this collaboration a success.
Through this collaboration, Central Lampung is expected to become a center for tropical date palm production in Indonesia. Not only that, this district is also encouraged to become a pioneer of date palm agro-tourism that is able to attract domestic and international tourists. This is an important breakthrough in an effort to increase the potential of regional income as well as as a Regional Original Income (PAD), said Tedy in his remarks after the signing which was attended by all local government officials and the Chair of the Regional Research Council.
H. Musa Ahmad has a commitment and concern for the development and progress of the agricultural sector, especially plantations. This is evidenced by the hashtag “Pertanian Berjaya” which is the tagline of Central Lampung Regency. In his remarks, he said he was happy to be working with the Plantation Research and Development Center. He hopes that this cooperation can be followed up properly so that the development of tropical dates in Central Lampung can be carried out. Musa hopes that the development of dates will be able to spur economic growth and make Central Lampung a national reference.
After the signing, a visit was made to the location of date palms owned by Islamic boarding schools and mosques. In the field discussion, Deputy Chairman of DPRD Ir. Sutomo hopes that the date palm development cooperation in Central Lampung will not only boost people’s income levels, but will also be able to develop date research.
In implementing and following up activities, the Central Lampung Regional Government through related agencies such as Balitbangda, Regional Research Council and the Lampung Agricultural Technology Study Center (BPTP) will partner directly with the Indonesian Palm Crops Research Institute (IPCRI), which is the UPT of the ICECRD. IPCRI has received a new mandate for the development of tropical dates by utilizing its technology.
In addition to the Cooperation Agreement, on that occasion Central Lampung Regency also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD. This MoU is an opportunity for Central Lampung to work together in developing commodities other than dates, namely food, horticulture and livestock. (Anjas)
