ICECRD ACTIVITIES – Head of Plantation Research and Development Center (Puslitbang Perkebunan) Ir. Syafaruddin, Ph.D. , said that carrying out tasks in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic is a new challenge for the world and Indonesia in particular that requires individuals, communities and countries to respond carefully and quickly so as not to have a major loss impact, especially on the economy and development. This was conveyed in a virtual speech at the signing of the Cooperation Agreement with the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and the Faculty of Agriculture as well as the University of Jember Webinar. The signing ceremony and the Webinar were officially opened by the Chancellor of the University of Jember, Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng. and continued with remarks from the Head of the Plantation Research and Development Center and the Director of the Jember State Polytechnic, Saiful Anwar, S.Tp, MP. (27/08/2020).

Furthermore, Syafaruddin in his speech said that having faith behind these events and disasters has great lessons, one of which is to demand that every nation, society and individual is required to be creative in solving activity barriers during the Pandemic by maximizing existing resources and potential. The Plantation Research and Development Center as an institution for research and development of plantation commodities under the Agency for Agricultural Research and Development, Ministry of Agriculture has an important and strategic mandate to be able to produce high-quality research for adoption that is able to provide broad benefits to the wider community and stakeholders both at home and abroad. One form of technology development and dissemination is through the expansion of the cooperation network, he said.

The Plantation Research and Development Center has four echelon III Technical Implementation Units (UPT) with a plantation commodity research mandate, namely: Research Institute for Medicinal Plants and Spices (Balittro) in Bogor, Research Institute for Industrial and Refreshing Plants (Balittri) in Sukabumi, Research Institute for Palm Plants (Balit Palma) in Manado, and the Research Institute for Sweeteners and Fibers (Balittas) in Malang. The four UPTs warmly welcome and are ready to become partners in the field of research and development of plantation commodities in the context of the success of the Independent Learning Campus-Independence Campus program. This has become our commitment and we officially convey it to all cooperation partners and potential partners at every opportunity, added Syafaruddin.

On TA. 2019 The Plantation Research and Development Center has expanded cooperation with various parties, namely Regional Governments, Universities, Private Sector and State-Owned Enterprises. A total of 10 partners who have signed cooperation agreements, namely: 6 Universities, 1 Regional Government, 2 Research Institutes / Research Centers and 1 BUMN. Furthermore, on June 8, 2020, a coordination meeting was held as a follow-up to the collaboration with the 10 partners. The Coordination Meeting aims to sharpen the programs and activities that will be contained in the Terms of Reference (TOR) by bringing together the Commodity Research Centers and collaboration partners. Substantively, the Coordination Meeting has resulted in strategic steps to realize activities, especially in supporting university academic activities.

Data for the Cooperation of the Plantation Center for Research and Development, shows that in FY. 2020 again expands collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Instiper Yogyakarta, Polytechnic of Agricultural Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University and Faculty of Agriculture, Jenderal Sudirman University. This collaboration has the right momentum in supporting the policies/programs of the Ministry of Education and Culture, namely the Independent Learning Campus-Independent Campus.

Signing is done online(27/08/2020) between the Plantation Research and Development Center with the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jember which was attended by 500 participants from various circles, namely universities, structural officials within the Plantation Research and Development Center, researchers, students and the private sector. The Head of the Plantation Research and Development Center who was accompanied by structural officials namely the Head of Cooperation and Utilization of Research Results (KSPHP) and the Head of Program and Evaluation (PE) welcomed the initiation of this collaboration, by maximizing all the potential possessed, especially the duties and functions of the Research Center within the scope of the Research and Development Center. After the signing, the activity continued with a Webinar with the theme: “Development of Plantation Potential in East Java and Collaborative Efforts on Independent Campus-Independent Learning”. The Head of the Plantation Research and Development Center delivered a presentation related to the Synergy of Technology Development of the Plantation Research and Development Center in Supporting Independent Learning-Independent Campus. In his description, Syafaruddin emphasized the importance of the independent study-campus program, the importance of the support of the Plantation Research and Development Center, the support of facilities and infrastructure and the technological innovation of the Plantation Research and Development Center and the introduction of superior products produced by the Research Centers. At the end of the Webinar, the Chancellor, Dean and participants appreciated and welcomed the collaboration with the Plantation Research and Development Center, with the hope of being able to be an acceleration in the success of independent learning programs – independent campuses and the Tri Darma of higher education. (Anjas/TEAM-Web)
