ICECRD NEWS – Citronella oil ( Cymbopogon nardus ), is one of Indonesia’s sources of foreign exchange. In 2022 it is estimated that the marketing value of world lemongrass oil will reach more than US $ 70 million and Indonesia produces 40% of the world’s supply. The quality of Indonesian lemongrass oil is low because farmers generally grow local varieties with oil quality below SNI standards, Sitronellal content is only 10-25% and oil yield is 0.35% to 0.7% so it has an impact on the low selling price of oil.
To improve oil quality and farmers’ income, Balittro has released superior variety of Lemongrass 1. Citrona 1 Agribun da Sitrona 2 Agribun, with oil quality above SNI standards and selling prices 33% higher than the selling price of local varieties of citronella perfume. (Anjas)
