ICECRD ACTIVITIES – The Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Harvick Hasnul Qolbi, paid a working visit to the Indonesian Industrial & Bevarages Crops Research Institute (IIBCRI), Thursday, September 16, 2021. The main purpose of this visit was to encourage the acceleration of technology adoption through the dissemination of superior plantation seeds.

In addition, in a discussion session with farmers, the Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of farmer regeneration. According to him, this is one of the main problems of agriculture in Indonesia besides the limited land. Without regeneration, it will be difficult for Indonesia to maintain its title as an agricultural country.

“The essence of this problem is the interest or motivation of all of us to the world of agriculture and food. We need a conducive environment, motivation of all parties for downstream development in Indonesia, “said the Deputy Minister.

With a conducive situation, the program can run well, resources can be explored, unemployment is suppressed, and farmers’ incomes are increased. The increased income is believed to be able to boost young people’s interest in agriculture, so that the conversion of land to non-agricultural uses can be suppressed.

Furthermore, these young farmers are expected to be able to create new creative innovations. The results or achievements also need to be conveyed to the community to educate and foster a deeper interest in agriculture.

“The president is very concerned about this issue. He is very technical and detailed, continues to provide criticism and input so that we all work for the community. I hope we can all keep the situation conducive, God willing, it will be a blessing,” he concluded. (Anjas)
