UNPAD (26/10/2020) held Plant Protection Day and the 2020 National Seminar (PPDSN4-2020) which is a national activity held by the Department of Pests and Plant Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University (UNPAD). PPDSN4-2020 activities contain national seminars (webinars) and competitions ( online based ). The theme for this PPDSN4-2020 activity is “Present Innovation and Future Challenges for Plant Protection”.
The objectives of the seminar are (1) increasing participation and collaboration between academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers in determining appropriate crop protection strategies, one of which is the use and application of pesticides, so that agricultural products produced are able to maintain food and environmental security, and (2) Increase awareness, insight, knowledge and skills of Indonesia’s young generation in the field of plant protection.
The seminar was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor of UNPAD, for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc. , after a speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture UNPAD, Dr. Ir. H. Sudarjat, MP Present as Keynote Speech at this prestigious national seminar: Dr. H. Syahrul Limpo SH, M.Si, MH / Minister of Agriculture, and two guest speakers Prof. Katahira Mitsuhiko / Faculty of Agriculture, Yamagata University, Dhirencranath Singh / Ph.D student) From the Faculty of Agriculture, Yamagata University, Sutomo, Ph.D / Indonesian Institute of Sciences, and Prof. Ir. Tarkus Suganda, M.Sc, Ph.D / Padjadjaran University.
This online National Seminar was attended by more than 575 participants from various universities both domestic and abroad with related sub-themes: Technology Innovations to Use Natural Enemies and Biological Agents, Plant Protection Technology Innovations in the Face of Climate Change, Engineering Technology Innovations in Plant Protection, Applications Information Technology in Plant Protection and Natural Material Pesticide Technology Innovations.
Head of the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD) Ir. Syafaruddin, Ph.D. , received a mandate as Keynote Speech on this occasion representing the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture and an expert in the field of Plant Breeding .
Syafaruddin, stated that the national seminar this time was the honor and trust of the Minister of Agriculture to convey important ideas and innovations related to plant protection in order to maintain and increase food security and maintain the existence of the environment in the context of independence, progress and modernization of agricultural development. The subjects conveyed by the Head of Center included: Remaining issues, Pests and New Plant Diseases, Pest Mitigation and Control Systems, and Plant Protection Research and Development Policies.
At the end of his presentation, Syfaruddim invited all groups, especially academics and researchers to continue to innovate through various researches by creating new technologies in the framework of plant protection in supporting modern agricultural development in the future. Of course to achieve this requires solid coordination and synergy, especially between universities as a scientific basis and research institutions, especially the Ministry of Agriculture’s Balitbangtan as an agricultural research and development institution and with the Technical Director General related to the Ministry of Agriculture, said Syafaruddin.
