PLANTATION NEWS – Recent research shows that eucalyptus has the potential to prevent corona viruses. The figure of the leaves and flowers of Eucalyptus torquata contains the compound sineol. The active ingredient of cineol contained in eucalyptus has the potential to prevent corona virus.
“If you wait for the vaccine (corona virus, red), it takes a long time. Why don’t we try the usual medicines around the community? ” said Dr. Ir. Evi Savitri Iriani, M.Sc. The Head of the Indonesian Spice & Medicinal Crops Research Institute (Balittro) collaborates with the Indonesian Center for Veterinary Research (Baliitvet) and the Post-Agricultural Center for Agriculture (BB Pascapanen) to find antiviral drugs to identify corona. The researchers found the active ingredient sineol as an antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory through literature studies. Commodities that contain the highest cineols include eucalyptus and kayuputih. Sineol compounds are also found in the kencur kencur, ginger, rosemary, and time. Periet Balitvet distills eucalyptus leaves and tests them directly for viruses. The result is that the influenza virus has died 100%.
