ICECRD ACTIVITIES – The Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development together with the Technical Implementing Units under it (ISMCRI & IIBCRI) on Friday, April 30, 2021 carried out technical guidance activities (TG) for pepper and coffee plants in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung. The event began with remarks from the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development (Ir. Syafaruddin, Ph.D), followed by a welcome greeting and remarks by the Deputy Regent of Tanggamus (Hj. Dewi Handajani) as well as the opening and direction of the Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI (Sudin, SE).
In his remarks Syafaruddin expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Chairman of the DPR RI (Sudin, SE), the Regent of Tanggamus, the Deputy Regent of Kab. Tanggamus, Chairperson of the Tanggamus DPRD, Head of the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Security, Head of the Plantation and Livestock Service Office, and Head of Bappelitbangda. This activity was also attended by the Tanggamus Regency Agriculture Office, Puskeswan Pulau Panggung, UPTD Seed Supervision, several Farmer Groups and KWT Bunda Asri with 125 participants by applying the Health protocol.
Besides the Technical Guidance, Head of the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Developmentt also conveyed the I-CARE program, which will be implemented in 9 provinces throughout Indonesia, one of which is in Lampung Province, namely in Tanggamus Regency for coffee plants and goat livestock. The I-CARE program is one of the Agriculture Research and Development Agency programs of the Ministry of Agriculture, which will be implemented in 2022 as a form of community empowerment which is expected to improve the welfare of farmers as well as disseminate technological innovations from the IAARD.
After introducing the entire staff including the Head of the Lampung AIAT (Dr. Drs. Jekvy Hendra, M. Si), Syafaruddin hopes that technical guidance will not only be done this once, but can be done repeatedly so that later the people of Tanggamus can better understand cultivating pepper and coffee from upstream to downstream.
The Regent of Tanggamus District expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the implementation of the technical guidance for pepper and coffee plantations carried out by the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development IAARD Ministry of Agriculture and the implementation plan of the I-CARE program. The Regent was also very happy and happy because he received the attention of the Central Government, the Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament, the Indonesian Center For Estate Crops Research and Development, Ministry of Agriculture to stay in touch. He hopes that the technical guidance participants can follow as well as possible, become competent agricultural actors, can compete and in the end can improve the welfare of farmers.
The people of Tanggamus Regency are mostly farmers, who have great potential in the plantation sector. Plantation area of 80.1 hectares (41 hectares planted with robusta coffee) and other potentials such as: livestock, agriculture and tourism. The Regent hopes that Tanggamus Regency can develop a pilot area in the agricultural sector which is integrated from upstream to downstream, so that Tanggamus Regency can progress and be cool, he added.
Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI Sudin, SE., In his remarks expressed his gratitude for the implementation of technical guidance and provision of coffee and pepper seeds from the Center for Research and Development of Plantation. This is important because technical guidance can improve the ability to cultivate properly, said Sudin. He is very concerned about the current condition because the yield of coffee and pepper in Tanggamus Regency is decreasing (less than 500kg / year). The implementation of this technical guidance is expected that the participants will be able to listen well, ask about problems / problems faced, how to increase production to the resource person from the Center for Research and Development of Plantation, and after attending the technical guidance, the knowledge is conveyed to family, neighbors, friends about how to plant good pepper and coffee so that production pepper, coffee can be achieved and welfare can be increased, the Sudin hoped.
After the opening ceremony was continued with the handover of pepper and coffee seeds from IAARD to farmer groups delivered by the Chairperson of Commission IV DPR RI. Gusmaini, researcher of Ecophysiology of the Indonesian Spice & Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMCRI) and TG of Coffee Cultivation by Ir. Handi Supriadi, researcher at the Indonesian Industrial & Bevarages Crops Research Institute (IIBCRI). In his explanation, the resource person hopes that the technical guidance participants, so that farmers can apply good and correct cultivation of pepper and coffee according to the SOP, so that the resulting production can be optimal.
