ESTATE CROPS INNOVATION – intensification of the use of synthetic pesticides resulting in serious impacts, including the balance of the ecosystem disturbed agricultural land for natural enemies of pests killed. This state at any time can lead to an explosion of pests, so farmers had to use pesticides with concentrations higher than the recommendations given.
In the long run an increase in the concentration of pesticides cause resistance to pests and health problems of farmers and consumers. To overcome these problems it is time farmers use safer pest control for life, one of them using a pesticide plant.
Smartz+ (Figure 1.) Is one pesticide plant Indonesian Center for Estate Crops Research and Development (ICECRD), Ministry of Agriculture and Development Agency (IAARD) based on clove oil and citronella. Pesticides have been studied proved to be effectively used to control various pests from groups such as Nilaparvata lugens Hemiptera, Helopeltis sp, and Aphis sp.
Utilization Smartz+ in addition to control pests is also able to improve plant growth because the active ingredients are sprayed onto the crop will be degraded and turned into organic fertilizer. Smartz+ vegetable pesticide application in rice proved to increase grain production to 1 ton per hectare.

Smartz+ is also able to control the cocoa fruit borer (Conopomorpha cramerella). These pests begin to lay eggs on young cocoa pods with a length of about 8 cm. Fruits are infected show symptoms eventually matures early, is striped yellow orange and green or yellow marks contained discharge larvae hoist hole.
At the time of cut fruit seeds to stick and colored black seeds do not grow and become smaller in size so that seeds can not be harvested and utilized at all (Figure 2.).

The results Smartz+ utilization on cocoa trees in Sopeng, South Sulawesi prove that pesticide plant Smartz+ 7.5 + at a concentration of 10% was applied every week in a row can reduce CPB attack by 70 and 97% (Figure 3).
These results are better than with the comparator insecticide Sihalotrin Lamda 25 gr / l were able to suppress CPB attack by about 50%. This test proves that botanical pesticides Smartz+ could substitute the use of insecticides Lamda Sihalotrin 25 g / l which has been widely used by local farmers.

The effectiveness of insecticide Lamda Sihalotrin 25 g / l of low presumably because C. Cremerella been resistant to these insecticides. If insecticides will continue to be used then the farmers should apply to higher concentrations. This behavior causes the body’s exposure to chemicals to farmers has increased resulting in lower health.
An important role of government in overseeing the distribution and use of insecticides was time increased. Use of botanical pesticides is expected to be a solution to the existing problems especially cocoa farmers in Indonesia in the face of attacks PBK (Wiratno-Researcher of ICECRD).
