Control of Cocoa main pest Using Botanical Pesticide and Biological Agents

ESTATE CROPS NEWS – The low productivity of cocoa in Indonesia such caused by pests and diseases. Many species of pests and diseases attack the cocoa plant. The major pest of cocoa in Indonesia, among others are cacao fruit borer (Conopomorpha cramerella) and fruit-sucking bugs (Helopeltis spp.).

To control these pests, farmers generally use chemical insecticides that have a negative impact on the environment. One effort to reduce the negative impact of the pest control is to use botanical pesticides and biological agents such as parasitoids, predators and pathogens that are friendly to the environment. This paper describes some relevant aspects of  the major pest of cocoa plant such as C. cramerella and Helopeltis spp. and the control efforts that environmentally friendly.
