SUPERIOR VARIETY OF ESTATE CROPS – Mapanget coconut is a kind of coconut variety launched as national high yield coconut variety in 2005. Coconut was resulted from the selection of positive mass population of coconut in Mapanget village, District of Dimembe, Minahasa district, North Sulawesi. It grows well in lowland area up to 300 m above sea level. The area of coconut development covers dry land with wet climate (rainfall >2.500-3.500 mm/year).
Coconut satarts to produce coconut at 5 years old, with circular medium size coconut, and generally the color of the coconut shells is reddish brown. The production per bunch is 7 fruits, equals to 90 coconuts/tree/year or equals to 3.3 ton/ha/year copra production wih 62.5% oil contents.
Is superiorities are high yields of coconut and copra as well high oil contents. In addtion, this plant is quite tolerant to long dry season, resistant to rotten sprout caused by Phytophthora palmivora fungus.
Potentially, the variety should be used in national coconut renovation and development programs.
