Research priorities in the strategic plan by commodities :

Primary priority commodities : Pepper, Cashew, Clove, Ginger, Patchouli, Ginger, Cotton, Jatropha Curcas, Tobacco, Sugarcane, Coconut, Coconut oil, Sago, and Aren.

Potential Commodities : Vanilla, Nutmeg, Pecan, Fragrant Lempuyang, Aromatic Roots, Fragrant Serai, Jarak Kepyar, Kenaf, Sunflowers, Pinang, and Lontar.

Research priorities implemented by the Research Center are productivity and quality improvements through plant breeding activities using the new varieties, improved cultivation technology, pest control, post harvest and plantation development and policy analysis.

In general, the research activities carried out by four Technical Implementation Units (TIUs) and the head quarter of the ICECRD are as follows :

Indonesian Spices and Medicinal Crops Research Institute, Bogor, West Java (based on the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture No. 64/Permentan/OT/10/2011 dated October 12, 2011) has mandates to carry out research on spices, medicinal, aromatic, and cashew plants.

Indonesian Sweeteners and Fiber Crops Research Institute, Malang, East Java (based on the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture No. 63/Permentan/OT/10/2011 dated October 12, 2011) has mandates to carry out research on sweetening, fiber, tobacco, and industrial oil plants.

Indonesian Palmae Research Institute, Manado, North Sulawesi, (based on the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture No. 62/ Permentan/OT/10/2011, dated October 12, 2011), has mandates to carry out research on palmae plants.

Indonesian Industrial and Freshener Crops Research Institute, Pakuwon, Sukabumi, West Java (based on the Regulation of Minister of Agriculture. 65/Permentan/OT/10/2011 dated October 12, 2011) has mandates to carry out research on industrial and freshener plants.
