Salak Early Coconut Variety
SUPERIOR VARIETY OF ESTATE CROPS – The Salak variety is an early coconut variety resulted from germ exploration in Pemantang Panjang, South Kalimatan in 1980s. This variety grows well on lowland area up to 300 m above sea level. In the dry area with wet climate (rain fall <2.500 mm/year). The plant starts to produce at the age of 2 years and reaches full harvest at the age of 3 years. The coconut is small, rather curcular and green in color. The production is 80-120 coconut/tree/year.
The superiorities of coconut Salak variety are resistant to Phytopthora and high yield. In addition, it can produce coconut liquid than can be used as fresh drink and the coconut can also function is ornamental plant.
Coconut Salak variety is potential to be commercialized in a developing tourism areas. It also offers an opportunity for prime plantaion to open long term franchise collaboration in coconut production center that use coconut early ripening Salak variety.
